Guangzhou's statistical yearbook counts hospitals as one category among the city's medical and health institutions, and it splits them by type and by district. The city health commission also posts lists of licensed medical institutions on its website. This page sets out what the yearbook tables count and what the commission's query page lists. It does not rate, rank or recommend any hospital.
Hospitals by type
The Guangzhou Statistical Yearbook, in table 18-18, gives the number of health institutions for 2022 and 2023, shown below as the earlier and the later year. The table note says the data were provided by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission.

In the table, the types after the hospital row are the ones the yearbook groups under hospitals. The table counts institutions in units. It does not name them.
Hospitals by district
Table 18-21 of the yearbook gives basic statistics on medical and health institutions in each district for 2023. For each district it shows the number of all medical and health institutions, the number of hospitals, and beds in all institutions and in hospitals.

The city total in the same table is 6677 medical and health institutions and 331 hospitals, with 117071 beds in all institutions and 106785 beds in hospitals. The English names in brackets are plain translations added for readers. The table counts institutions and beds, and it does not measure the quality of care in any district.
The health commission's list of licensed institutions
The Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission has a medical institution query page (医疗机构查询) under its services section. The page lists data releases, each with a posting date:
- information on medical institutions licensed by the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission, with data as of 10 October 2026, posted on 20 October 2026
- information on medical institutions in Guangzhou licensed by the Guangdong Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with data as of 10 October 2026
- information on medical institutions in Guangzhou licensed by the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, with data as of 10 October 2026
The page also lists earlier releases of the same three kinds, with data as of 13 July 2026, 20 April 2026 and 29 January 2026. These releases are posted under different licensing bodies, so a single hospital may appear under one body rather than another. This page did not open the data files.
What this page did not establish
- The yearbook tables give figures for two years. A count for a later year was not collected, so the numbers above may differ from the current situation.
- The health commission's own bulletin or briefing was not read for this page, so its counts may use different definitions from the yearbook's.
- The data files on the query page were not opened. No hospital name, level or licence record is stated here.
- This page does not say how many of the hospitals are public or private, or what level any hospital holds.

How many hospitals are there in Guangzhou?
The yearbook's table 18-18 gives hospital counts for two years, shown in the first table above. The same table also counts all medical and health institutions.
Does Guangzhou publish a list of licensed medical institutions?
The Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission's query page lists releases of information on licensed medical institutions, each with the date of its data.
Does the yearbook rank Guangzhou's hospitals?
The yearbook tables read for this page count institutions and beds by type and by district. They do not rank hospitals, and this page does not either.
